Hello everyone,

I am looking to get a printer for printing labels for some of the businesses that I work with here in town.

The labels will approximately 4"x 6" peel off kind that you purchase from Office Depot for 500 labels for $30 (price is just approximately). They come in standard paper size sheet with about 20 labels per page.

I will be using a small photo on the label, plus a very high graphic art design (logo, text, colors) and very vivid colors. The label itself will be very glossy and have a high professional shine to the front.

I will be printing off about 1000 labels at a time, but time and speed of printing isn't really an issue as I can spend a couple of days if need be waiting on the job to finish.

I just get confused when I go look at printers. You see ones costing $300 (Brother) and ones costing $800 (HP) that are identical according to their specs. Though I do see some of the Brother printers at $300 having a 1200 x 600 format while the HP only has 600x600. Not sure why the one with the higher format actually costs less. ??? I don't really need a "photo" printer as the occassional photo that may go on the label is tiny and pretty much like you use on a business card.

Any idea to help me decide which printer to get? Obviously I don't want to overspend for features I don't need.

thanks in advance for replying.

Is that glossy label "LASER" compatible?
How do you get 20 4"x6" labels on one page?

I would get an HP. They had the Color Laserjet 2600 on sale a couple of times for $279.
I just looked and they don't have that model on HP's site anymore.
They have this model, which looks decent,

And this one is just as good, but has less memory, no card slot (no biggie really) and no network port,
