Anyone know where I can learn a bit more about night time long exposure shots with star-trails a la Art Wolfe? I've been trying recently, but am finding it hard to master.

The most recent problem I had was on an hour long exposure last week. I was having big problems with condensation on the lens. Can this be fixed? I got an ok shot in the end, using torchlight, and a relatively short exposure at iso 6400.

I'm fairly pleased with the image, but I'd rather have a 3.5 hr long, all singing all dancing circles of stars style shot.

So, anyone know of any online tutorials or books for this kind of shooting, or can anyone offer any advice themselves?

Doing long star trails with digital is really hard, because the sensor starts to heat up and noise gets horrible. You've got to shoot at ISO 100, and turn on long exposure noise reduction in the custom functions. I've heard some people will just shoot multiple shorter frames and then put them together later, sort of like focus stacking for macro.

Ultimately, though, the best way to do star trails is just to get a film camera. Which is one of the reasons I just can't wait to get some film in this old Kodak beast I just got my hands on...
