As you know, i will try to use one of two popular filters online stores, 2filter & hvstar.
I don't know why, but i didn't see any GND on that hvstar, mostly of any brand that i prefer [HiTech or LEE], so i think i will just use 2filter, but i will use hvstar for CPL and ND if i can find one good top selling popular filters.

so from hvstar, i got those 2 Hoya CPL link, i remember i poasted them before on some threads, but really i want to know the difference and which one you will go with if any:

http://hvstar.net …Action=VIEWPROD&ProdID=16 (external link)

http://hvstar.net …eAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=9 (external link)

Just for more information, i would like to use with ultra wide lenses, standard lenses i don't have any problem to use any CPL anyway.

and for B+W Kaesemann 77mm [Slim or thin], which one do you recommend?

Oops, sorry.

As for CPL filters, if you are getting one for a wide angle lens, such as the 16-35, or 17-40L, then, get a 'thin' CPL filter.

As for the ND filters, try www.2filter.com (external link) or even B&H.

Try this link, from 2filter.com --> click here. (external link)

I bought the Hoya Pro Cir Pol. I love it. I bought mine from Lightrules. I have used it on the Canon 10-22 without any problems. Its such a day and night difference.

I can't recommend Hoya Pro. I just got mine from hvstar and it has a smear of some sort smack in the center, right on the bottom of the moveable top filter - where it can't be accessed for cleaning. I found out since that this is very common in Hoya filters (smears - the location of this particular one is just my luck).

Hvstar's service seems fine - delivered in a couple of weeks and didn't give me hard time when I asked to return it. I need to run a couple of tests to see if this smear is having any effect on photos, don't want to go through the hassle of return & rebuy.

Thank you very much for that.

about CPL, i will keep looking at links and the posts of members here, i use my B+W Kasem MRC the most expensive one right now, really great one and no problems, but as i stated before, that big front thread element 95mm making it the only filter to use with lens and i can't use any lens cap or another filter above, this is an issue to me, but ofcourse when i use it alone then it serve more than perfect.

about ND, i think i decided to go with Singh-Ray Vari-ND, not sure i will get it and i will wait a while, but seems i always read about it and tempted by it, so i think i will get it and stop that.

I heard many folks here loving it and recommending it, i keep consider it for sure and decide later which CPL i will go with.

Can't be sure if that smears is just with you and not other members as well, i can't judge that this problem occurs on all CPL or another filters from this site, so i will wait to hear more story about that by other members from this site, and i will wait your review about that smear if it affects the shots or not.

In fact i feel more leaning towards B+W CPL than Hoya, but who knows what i will end up with.

Thanks :)

OK an update. I just decided to double-check after I typed my post.

The good thing is, I am an idiot ;) there's no lower filter - it's just a moveable ring. I was confused because I could see the smear rotate just from one end of the filter, but I guess that's the nature of the filter. So the smear should be accessible. The bad thing is, I can't get it off either with a fibercloth or with a lenspen. I will probably take it to the local photo shop to see if they can recommend a cleaning solution.

I can't say if it affects picture quality - I should try cleaning it off first, I guess.

That Hoya filters tend to have smears when delivered can be easily found on the net, so it's not just my filter.

This has nothing to do with Hvstar, the filter was sealed in the Hoya package when it arrived, hvstar is merely a reseller and I would buy from them again - I think I had a good experience and they were fast to reply.

Ah ok, thats good news then ;)

I didn't buy from them yet, and i got a message on the site telling me that they accept orders from some countries they listed, and my country is not of them -unfortunately- just it said that i have to call them for order in this case.
I will ask one local dealer of Hoya [and something else] if they have Hoya CPL filters, so i can try it before i buy any CPL rather than my B+W or another one included Hoya.

Thanks again for this post.
