Picture Style, do you use it?

I always thought that picturestyle feature was such a amateur stuff. Am I correct or totally wrong? Do you change it every time?

I don't use it. I shoot RAW and PP with Lightroom so Picture Styles do not work. On the off chance that I shot JPEG I would likely try them out.

I set my first custom Picture Style on my 40D for what I like with motor sports since RAW just isn't a reasonable option when shooting 3000 photos per day. I turned up my saturation & sharpness.

So how many of these 3000 shot's a day meetings do you attend each month.

That's a lot of clicks, or is this normal, how do you have the time to review them all.

It's a 2 day race once a month. I group the photos in post by each race then I use ACDSee and it allows a full screen preview instantly so I can zip through the photos pretty quickly. I tag the best of each sequence for web use.

thats around 72000 clicks p.a. for this alone, that's a few

Yeah I use ACDSee Pro batch process to resize & watermark my images too.

I increase the sharpness for viewing on the LCD .... but thats all since I shoot RAW as well.

Have you tried lightroom? Im editing 7000 images from a swim meet Sat. They are all in RAW but lightroom makes editing and viewing easy. The few that need work I switch to CS3.

Edit a few 1000, check POTN for a break.... edit a few 1000 check POTN... repeat wash rinse

I did try light room and it loaded the photos noticeably slower than ACDSee Pro.

I like neutral ...But I shoot RAW so I can change it at will in PP if I choose. (not very often)


7000 photos...Unless my math is off that's one picture every six seconds for twelve hours straight!!!

RAW images will load slower due to size.... could that be a reason?

I only shoot jpegs when direct upload is necessary. Otherwise RAW gives you options in case you need it and since most of my events are indoors in crappy light having the ability to recover shadows/highlights and adjust WB is priceless!

But, finding a workflow that you like is most important.... AND I feel your pain about editing that many images.

I shoot jpg, and it with ACDSee it's less than 1 second per photo since they load fast. And it's also motor sports so it's either sharp or its not, it's either in the frame or it's not. It's quick per picture.
