5D 3200 iso too much?

Planning of shoting in extreme light conditions with available light, I was wondering if a 3200 iso would be too much... I'd like to know from you if this is "normal"?

If that's what it takes to get the shot. It will be a bit noisy be certainly usable if you do your part.

I shoot at 1600 & 3200 with my 5D all the time. Get the exposure right and you will be FINE.

I would agree....I've had photos that seemed quite noisy only to get prints that looked fantastic. When viewing on screen at 100%, you'll notice much more noise than you'll ever see in prints 11x14 and under.

I use the high ISOs on my 5D all the time. I once took a shot at ISO 3200 that I entered in our local PPA chapter print competition and it merited. The judges then talked to me about entering at the state and national level as they thought it would do quite well. So I think I might just do that.

But as stated above, if you are going to shoot high ISO then it becomes even more important that you nail the exposure... error on going a little over rather than under if you have to choose.

...and yes, prints will tend to look less noisey than the image on the screen mainly due to dot gain.... which is simply the fact that the ink will spread out once it hits the paper which helps things bleed together more and hide high contrast edges in small details, like digital noise.

5D + ISO3200, never a problem.
