Troubles with A720?

I had recently purchased a Canon A720 (recently as.. June 7th). I did a lot of research to try and make sure I had the right camera for me. I enjoyed the images it produced BUT It made very audible noises while focusing, I would liken it to almost a groan.. if cameras could groan. It also began having trouble with zooming in and out after a time (not to do with batteries.. I switched them out)

I ended up returning the camera. I really do need a camera.. but I am a little standoffish about going straight back to the A720. Are these common problems anyone has encountered? Any advice on whether I should just give it another go? Maybe my badluck/ possible dud? I am just so exhausted from all this camera research... I don't know if I can endure anymore.

Well I know how offputting that can be, I too would be weary of trying another, but all P&S cameras have reported lens issues when you search online, regardless of make or price.

I have been using the A720IS & its been great, but I have read of reports about the lens jamming & other problems, which almost put me off of buying this camera, but then I read the same about every other camera I typed into google.

I think you have just got a dud, thats all.

Unfortunately mine says "Made in China" which seems to be the trend nowdays, all of the large companies send the cheaper goods to be made in China but the higher priced or more complex items are usually made in Taiwan & other countries, which are much better than China.

My brother used to work in a factory for a famous aircraft company, they used to make the profitable & highly complex items there, but sent all the cheap & non complex stuff over to China to be made, when they received the finished work back he had to inspect every item & he always used to complain about the shoddy soldering & other such things, its about time we stopped using cheap labour in China, thankfully my 5D is made in Japan which is a far more technically capable country.
