I 100% agree, but, in this case, you have to do a lot of playing to get one that you like I guess... :)
Also, this is a GREAT learning experience, 'cause NEXT TIME you will look for these problems beforehand. heheh
One thing too, always shoot what you don't think you'll need on landscapes, or at least I do, I even shoot panoramics whether I use it as one or not, just in case, 'cause I have been in this position before, 'specially at a place such as this

Another way to fix this would be to extend the water, if cloning is something you can do good, and be comfortable with as far as ethics, that way, you can keep it all.
I think the shot is a good one, and I also think that you should do whatever it is that you can to save it and make you happy with it. :)

Not sure about the crop, but IMO it needs a slight tilt clockwise...

Edit: uploaded a crop, then realised the OP doesn't have "image editing okay" turned on...

I just stumbled onto this thread and I'm glad you made it back!

I like your pictures too, particularly the cropped ones.

This reminds me of a time in college my roommate and I were sitting on the porch and a lighting bolt struck a tree across the street, less than 100 feet away from us... It's amazing the power those things hold, it blinds you and shakes you down to your core, I couldn't imagine actually getting struck!

Yeah I think perhaps I'll go back and try again but in September or October when the sun is in a better position!

Incidentally here's a shot I took last September that I've always liked, but I just feel there is more potential in stormy conditions for a more special shot. I was a little closer in this one actually, and the big building in question is obscured by the sun and the cliff. Come to think of it, the lighthouse is fairly central in this one too, but I think it's balanced out by the sun a bit more.:) (It's a bit oversharpened in this 72 res version)

Thanks, this was the crop and straighten I did.
A bit more space on the left would have been very nice though...
