Can you offer PP improvement suggestions on this image please.
Would like to retain the internal framing caused by the branches if possible.

i like the branches surrounding it too. not much to work with and i stink at pp work. but this is my attempt. crop most of the left hand side off and use curve to bring some highlight back. oh and use some noise removal too so it looks rather soft now

No, Bill, from my vantage point the EXIF is missing.

Not sure what you think about this. I'm just learning some new tricks with photoshop. I did some small tweaking in levels, followed by some adjustment of a and b channels in lab color mode, curves adjustments, and some saturation adjustments for different color channels. Played around with it a little, so I probably didn't need all those steps and some are redundant.

Could you elaborate? I can't really tell what your comment is referring to and it seems to also have confused Bill Pham.

Personally, I like the crop that you did. The compression applied to the image (twice since you also had to apply compression) would make it difficult to maintain high quality in the edited image, but I get the gist of your edit. I was not able to decipher the implications of the EXIF comment. The original image has both EXIF and ACR metadata embedded.

Perhaps Bob was referring to your image not having EXIF data, but I don't think so because that would be superfluous information since the original image already shows the EXIF, which is camera and lens data and should not be confused with the metadata from ACR that shows the editing that was done during post processing.

I've always thought that a square crop demands a really strong image and I wouldn't have thought this image was up to the task. yes/no?

Regarding data; With this new DsM3, the EXIF is present until I upload onto this or any other site.
I use only CS3 and can't figure out the problem.

Gentlemen -
I was referring to the notation in Bill Pham's post in which there is the phrase Exif should be intact" under his Gear List.
Sorry - I knew no one would figure out what I was referring to. Should have kept my mouth shut:lol:

Using PS CS3, I see all of his metadata ... both EXIF and PS data. I think that the other metadata fields are empty.

To Chauncy, when using CS3, "Save As ..." will preserve metadata, but "Save for Web and Devices" will strip the metadata, ICC profile data, and formatting data. The advantage of "Save for Web and Devices" is that file size is reduced considerably, but the disadvantages are many including loss of any semblance of color management, problems when using the files in publication software such as Adobe InDesign because of loss of formatting information, and the potential for snide comments on photo forums when viewers can't see the camera shooting conditions.

This is the first time that I have noticed an image that has Metadata when looking at it in PSCS3 but does not have EXIF data according to Opanda IExif.

From now on I will have to remember that it can be there as Metadata but is not recognized by Opanda.

I am not familiar with Opanda, but perhaps it gets confused if there is metadata other than just EXIF (Photoshop ACR editing values in this case).
