40D busy error

I am repeatedly getting busy errors from my 40d. Right in the middle of shooting I will be shut down and the camera will be locked up with the viewer saying busy. This condition does not resolve itself. I have to kick the batteries out for 10 seconds to get the camera to reset. So far I have not lost any pictures as also have a 30d around my neck as backup. Anyone know of this condition or a remedy?

are you shooting RAW @ 6fps? shooting multiples of RAWs with a slow cf card?
we need more details to help. it can take up to 10-20 seconds if you fire off a burst rate of like, 15 RAW shots in a row.
the raw files in a 40d are 14-bit, and are much larger. perhaps it's time for a extreme III or IV card?
