Ok, I've been shooting portraits for a while now and know what to charge for that. I've just been asked to provide a quote for a photo shoot and I have no idea what to charge. I searched through the stickies but could not find anything to help me out. Here's the situation ...

It's a magazine that is published every month. I've been asked to shoot some shots for a profile story. It would be at one location, and consist of 2 poses. They want a total of 10 final shots per pose, and then they choose 2 finals out of those. So I would providing 20 final images on CD consisting of 2 poses at the same location. Of the 2 final they choose, one will be for the monthly magazine and one would be for an online gallery.

I know what I'll be charging for mileage but I have no idea what to charge for the photo shoot. I need some help from some experienced photogs. HELP!

When I do portrait work, I charge an hourly rate; usually between $75 and $90/hr, however I know some that charge per sitting at $400.00 and go up from there. Then the question becomes, are they paying you for the pictures that will be published? Because that is a whole different area that comes under the heading of "Public Usage". Are you selling them the RAW version or just the jpeg? How much is the RAW worth to you?
