Is it worth it? Looking for something wider than 28. I have considered the Canon 18-55 IS but went and checked one out today and it really feels cheap. I know it gets good reviews but I am not sold on it.

So my dilemma is...I could buy the 18-55 IS outright for $199 locally. Or I could look at a Sigma 17-70 for $399 locally, which I would have to sell my 28-135 to make up for the cost. I have a 70-300 Sigma APO that covers the long range, so with the sigma, there wouldnt be any gap in coverage. Looking to get into portrait and modeling shots and to me, the kit 28-135 is mediocre.

Would I be stupid for giving up a 28-135 for a sigma 17-70?

If its just a wide angle to tele photo coverage you're after, why not get the Sigma 18-200 OS?

Mainly cost...tight budget right now. Looking more for the wide end really. Cant afford a 10-20 right now so looking at alternatives that will cover my range.

If I were in your situation, I'd keep the 28-135 IS, and just get the 18-55 IS lens. Though its plasticky, I've read good reports about it.
IS is a very important feature for me because my hands shake a lot.
So this is just my own opinion.
Good luck!

Thanks....too many decisions... Trying to get something for the holiday. Maybe I will get the 18-55 IS and see how it goes...
