Hi guys, my wife and I were lucky enough to get some tickets for the 4th round matches at Wimbledon yesterday.

I'm new to SLR photography, having had my 450D for a fortnight now, but a friend of mine had given me his old 75-300mm lens [he now shoots with Nikon kit] with the caution that "It's not very good"!

The more I've read about the lens on the net, the more I thought it looked unsuitable; slow AF etc, etc.

However, I'm pretty pleased with the end results, especially shot handheld at full zoom. What do you think?

They are excellent from a person that has not done much sports photography before! The wide stadium shot is superb.Well done!

I agree, they are excellent for a first attempt, and I also like the wide shot; very well seen. Nice colours and they are quite sharp for that lens....

Cheers,
Sass

Man you are so lucky to get to Wimbledon. I try to get to the Sydney NSW Open each year but would love to get to Wimbledon and take some shots on grass.

Excellent stadium shot, What baffles me is the use of camera gear within the stands at SW19.

In pic 1 there is clearly a guy videoing the game stood next too PC Plum, You wouldnt get away with even using your phone in most football stadiums these days.

I sure hope to go Wimbledon next year, With or without gear. I defo think its a event to be at in your lifetime. Now then, how would I get tickets?

i always brag that a gymnist and a professional tennis player are the best conditioned athletes on the planet. your photos really do wonders for my argument. the close ups of the male players speak volumes about the conditioning required to play at that level.........BRAVO....GREAT WORK:cool:

I like the shots as well, though I'd crop a few. Some great action, nice job.
