"This setup is the perfect fit for my height (6' even) with the legs fully extended and center column all the way down "

I hop he is referring to the manfeddo??!!

I was surprised to see the black nut caps fall off of my 055XPROB as well, but that has been the only disappointing surprise! I absolutely love mine! I had a blast using it last week while vacationing in DC!

Rated 5 stars for finally answering the question of "Why doesn't the adjustment tool work on my legs?"... turns out there are nut caps in the way. =P

Only two downsides I have found to this setup:

1. The black caps over the nuts for the leg levers don't fit very well, 4 fell off just moving the legs to each degree shown above:

That's very interesting. I've had this setup for about 3 months now and haven't had any issues with any of the caps coming off.

Regarding the weight of the tripod, the only time I've felt like it was a burden was when I carried it around for about 4 hours one day. Someday I'm going to get a bag for it.

What a coincidence, I was placing an order for a tripod on Sunday and just had the hardest time figuring out and researching what was the best combination. Of course, carbon fiber would have been nice, but completely out of my ~$300 budget. After almost a day of searching, reading, and procrastination, I chose the exact same setup. I got mine yesterday and I love it!

Strange, I recently bought the Bogen Manfrotto 055MF4 carbon fiber tripod and it did not come with "nut caps", the nust are exposed. ;)

I'd say a little more than 5lbs, with ballhead. It looks bulky, but its actually not bad.

Using the bathroom scale mine is ~6.6 pounds or so. Not the lightest.

Dlively.
Great review of the popular Manfrotto combination so many of us have.
Even better, Sheba agrees.
Skippy also agrees.

Lol I have the same setup and never knew about those set screws for the head mount or what the heck that black plastic tool was for. Good review for people who refuse to read manuals(for tripods at least) ;)
