Banno, get em to buy Brenno's 1d Mk11 for you as well as payment! Win Win :D

To continue today's nature picture thread, something less scary than biting spiders and crawly ants, here are some great camouflaged plover eggs! You cannot see these guys if you are more than 3 feet away. Mind you the parents are scary as the swoop on you with their spur wings as their defence. Hence the 400mm!

Nice shot, and if you get closer than 10m away you are likely to get a wing spine in the back of the head.

Greg - very cool ant shot! Love the colours and the textures.

What set up are you using and how big are these ants??

What's a plover?

Thanks Kristin, this was with the MP-E65 at about 2x magnification and the lighting was a MT-24EX Twin Lite. The ants are about 8-10mm long.

Plovers are a seagull sized bird that pair up and next in open fields, they are very very protective of the eggs and young and will swoop to attack trespassers. They have spike on the elbow joint of their wings.

QUOTED IMAGE

Wow, nice shot Greg. I love quality macro work.

Quick one guys, going back to my question about photographing the bridge yesterday...

They want full high res shots with (from what I can gather) unlimited usage.... Taking into account I quoted large web size at $1500 and large corporate at $1000 for limited usage. What would be a reasonable price to ask for unlimited usage of the full high res digital images...?

I'm kinda in a little over my head in the price aspect as I really dont know too well.... And I've roped in another photog mate to help out getting different angles of the one opening, as I've only got a matter of minutes to get the shots...

Cheers guys, much appreciated

Sorry Shane, I'm no help with pricing. Just wanted to wish you luck in getting the gig.

Ahhhh Plovers... I remember tormenting them as a kid with my brother. We would always enjoy the thrill of dodging the swoop!! We didn't torment them as such, just used to walk around in area's where we knew we'd be attacked.

Excuse my lack of knowledge on the Macro side of things Greg, but what f stop did you shoot this at?? Just wondering about the DOF side of things.

thanks for the comments.

Canon MP-E65mm @ 2x mag 1/100 s at F 11.00 with ISO 250 + MR-24 Twin Lite
DoF is very thin at this F stop and magnification. Could have stopped down a little more but I would have lost even more natural light. As it was I was 1 stop under on the meter.
