Question for the Newcastle/Sydney members:

Hubby and I are flying into Newcastle to stay in Sydney for a few days next month (hey, $49 airfares! Need I say more?) What's the best way to get there?

Looking at the rail timetables, it looks like it will take 2.5 hours to take the train - is that right? Am I better off just hiring a car? How long is the drive?

Thanks guys!

Getting from Newcastle Airport to Broadmeadow Train Station by Taxi could well be the same price as the airfare, I'd be looking at a cheap Hire Car, Pick up Newcastle Air Port with either drop off in Sydney or back at Newcastle Airport if that's where your return flight leaves from.

Alternative is always to stop in Newcastle, and discover why many of us would never live anywhere else.

It's about a 2.5 hour rail trip from Newcastle to Sydney and a similar time by car (depending on what time of day you plan on traveling - getting into Sydney by road in peak hour is insanity).

Depending on where you are staying and traveling to while in Sydney will be the deciding factor on using public transport to get around or hiring a car.

We're public-transporting it, the hotel is in The Rocks so once we get to Sydney that won't be a problem, it's just getting there.

Any other suggestions? We get into Newcastle about midday on Tue, so don't want to spend the rest of the day getting to Sydney. It's supposed to be a holiday!

If you come down by train from Newcastle, once you get to Central Station, got to Platform 17 (there are lifts) and head to Circular Quay. The Rocks area is definitely only a short walk from there.

Getting around Sydney itself by public transport is relatively easy (plenty of buses), but if you are planning on heading out into the suburbs to do any tourist related stuff, it becomes a tad more difficult in some places.

I am sure if you post some of your itinerary here at least 24 hours ahead of when you are doing it, we'll give you advice on how to get to where you want to be.

What old fart said. The taxi from the airport to the nearest train station will be atleast $50. There's a pretty big hire car mob at the airport and the drive will be nicer than one of the crappy trains you will get. Bit of phototax from me to. Australian motox titles at the lakes track at Awaba. Plenty more on my Flickr page if your interested.

Have you upped the contrast on these? The reds and pink really stand out.

Just upped the saturation a bit in ACR but it looks like the save for web has stripped the colour profile grrrrrrrrrrr.

Oh good, I thought it might be the bourbons I have had that made them so bright.

They are good action shots though. I am starting to understand the way shutter speed works to freeze action.

Yeah definitely look oversaturated to me too. Otherwise good stuff.

Clarence, I finally got the new shutter into your 30D and put it all back together. Seems to be working fine so far. Could you send me your address so I can post it back to you? BTW, did you send it with a battery in it?

*YAWN*.... bed time for me.

So, I may have just ordered a 50/1.2L.

It's possible.

Theoretically.
