Indeed. Kind of hard to believe it went up in about three weeks given it was delayed twice over the past months.

Thanks Feng (re the Angus message)

re the 40D and AI-Servo and not tracking - welcome to the club.

I can't be bothered plugging a battery into mine to check it - but you may have more luck if you select all focus points - I know that the 1D3 works better in some situations for me with the 'ring of fire' set and AI-Servo.

Oh, that's disappointing. I already had all focus points set. :(

Also the viewfinder image was darkened around the edges when using my 100-400L... seeded a bit odd considering the viewfinder on the 40D was supposed to be brighter than previous models.

Doesn't worry me too much... I'll just use the 30D for tracking stuff. I don't have the latest firmware loaded on the 40D but there didn't seem to be anything terribly relevant in the relase notes for it. Maybe I'll give it a go just in case.

Dammit - I know this is gonna kick back at me - but I'll play the game...

Angus - why did Canon want the 40D - what was the problem?

The battery grip issue, they dont think it was the grip.

Dan I have no probs tracking with the 40D shooting our budgie when he is in his cage. or with plover eggs...guess that don't help much.

BTW I love all the pots calling the kettle black earlier today, wish I was on line then to help you fight the battle for the mighty Gong!

I am sorry to say - my particular copy of the 40D was the biggest waste of money Canon have ever caught me on.

It couldn't track a fixed barn door 30 feet away.

Which is why it sits out of sight and out of mind. It went back to Canon once - and while better - was no good at even tracking a nice big airplane. In fact - the 5D was a better aviation workhorse with aircraft and birds in flight - which is what I bought the 40D for.

Now - I know and understand - there are a LOT of people out there with perfectly working 40D's - so take my comments with a grain of salt - and never offer to buy mine - or let me try to sell it to you ;)

Afternoon guys... That gear that guy has for the Olympics is crazy! I was just checking out his site, he's a very good photographer. I love his aerial work of NY.

He mentioned that it was sold... Something must have come up.

On another note. My 135L is still for sale, looking for anything in the $950 range shipped. Also selling my Alien Bee 800 Looking for around $250 odd.:D

I want to move back up to a 70-200 IS.
