ahh ok I think I recall reading about that a while ago..

so does the IR affect metering? like is there a certain rule you have to apply or is it pretty much the same as normal?

Generally meters the same. You do have to be careful about scenes with lots of foliage but you can just chimp and work it out pretty easily.

Dan, do you have a Photoshop action for faux colour into IR? Please, if not, make one :D

LOL I don't know why, but this really made me laugh this morning.

I can't believe September is half over AND it's Monday again ... weekends are too short lately. Good thing I go on holidays again in three weeks, I guess.

Grrrrr, I'd like some time off about school hols time here. Little chance of that with the amount I have to do this month. Small consolation is that today is my RDO. Yeah for three day weekends.:D

Maroondah Reservoir, up around Healesville area. One of the scenic lookouts.

Will have more pics up soon... some HDR-ish ones, if I can be bothered -otherwise it'll be a Lightroom touch-up with fill light and highlight reduction plus maybe the software grad filter :p see if you guys can spot it...

Can anyone help? I'm trying to work out how I can get more stops off an exposure and I can't decide whether to spring for a B+W x64 (drops 6 stops) @$130 (ouch!), Hoya ND-400 (9 stops) @ $170 (double-ouch!) or get a second ND8 (3 stops) @$70 and just stack them.

Have you got GNDs? With something like a Lee Foundation holder you can just stack a couple of GNDs... you can cover the entire lens with the dark portion and you get a lot more function out of having a couple of hard/soft GNDs that double as NDs than just straight NDs.

I'm using Lee GNDs and haven't noticed any IQ hit at all from having one - haven't tried stacking two yet, mind.. given the above choices, though, I think I'd spring for the Hoya so that you could get the most stops from only one piece of glass (if that wasn't overkill for what you were going for).

I'm taking a forced 2 weeks off work for the school holidays (mrs is going to be away with work, so it's my turn.) Not expecting to get much of a 'holiday' though, more like 'working from home.'
