Same here, but it can be an issue with a GND as only the dark bit gets the colour cast, so correcting is a bit trickier.

Z is 4"x6" filters (same size as Lee and Singh-Ray), and thus you don't get vignetting from the filter holder on an ultra-wide lens. P series is smaller (ummm, don't have the measurements handy). As such, it's fine for most lenses until you get to the 10-20mm range (or 16mm on FF) with the multi-holder.

I see. Yeah, at this stage I'm just looking for flat grey, not graduated so that should be ok to deal with in RAW conversion. The Z series gets rather expensive from the look of it.

Think I'll check out Madsens tomorrow. He was talking me into a Cokin system last time I was in there. I should have got one because it would have worked out cheaper in the long run.

A lot of reviews say that the Lee system is better because it has moving bits made of brass rather than the plastic of the Cokin... I haven't used the Cokin but opted for the Lee based on the reviews and the fact that it wasn't a great deal more expensive. The holder was about $75, a step-up filter $22 and 3-stop/0.9/ND8 hard GND $95.

Weren't you supposed to be not buying anything? Or was it just not using anything new for Luke's thing? :p

From the pricing I have, if I were using a cokin holder so much that it wore out, I could buy another one and still have spent less than what you paid for your Lee. LOL

Question time

Dual monitors - both the same manufacturer and size.

Calibration tool.

Sypder or Huey?

I really want them both calibrated.

Dan - if you are ever over this way I could lend you the Cokin P series for you to have a play - see if they suit your 'style'

I used to use them when I was at school but that was oh so very long ago ;)

All I want to do is cut out a heck of a lot of light without spending too much. I think getting a Cokin holder, adapter ring and a couple of ND8 filters (or an NDX) is going to cost less than any 77mm screw mount one I can get.

How thick are the actual filters? Do you find they degrade the resolution at all?

about 2mm thick

I reckon I get about the same hit (IQ wise) as a 1.4x teleconverter.

I have ND2, ND4 and ND8. I have both holders - the single and the triple. I also have 3 rings - I've got the 55mm, 77mm and 82mm

For a 4x4" holder? If that's the case then heh, plastic all the way ;)

P-series size whatever that is. Might be smaller than yours, but I don't need any bigger.
