It's about 8 or 9 stops, supposedly (where an ND8 is 3 stops). Not sure of what the actual numbers mean though - Lee (and Tiffen) use a different system whereby 0.3 = ND2, 0.6 = ND4 and 0.9 = ND8 but that doesn't really help either.

I always assumed the number following ND was the inverse of the fraction of light that is allowed through. ND2 transmits 1/2, ND4 transmits 1/4 and so on.

So ND400 transmits 1/400 which equates to a reduction of about 8.64 stops.

That makes sense. All I know is that ND400 is fairly dark (dark enough to look at a dichroic bulb and see all the detail without blinding yourself). ;-)a

Jim - love that colour and the shapes are fantastic!

Dan - very cool effect. Love the bench - makes you crawl into the frame. Lovely!

I have phototax today, too!

I was SO excited ... we have a SECOND dad emu with even smaller babies! I thought it was the same dad and when I tried to get close he was having none of it, which I thought was a little odd, but he's an emu. Then I saw the babies pop out from behind the tree and thought "man, they're way shorter than I remember!"

They are just too adorable!

I like this one... could do with a tiny bit more DOF to get that centre flower fully in focus but the framing is great ;)

sorry i cant see which one you mentioned? was it the first?

EDIT: wait, now i can see it, yeah unfortuently my 70-200 didnt feel like focusing too well that day, it says its got macro capability but i havn't really seen it yet, well havnt really tried that much :P

there was no real effort put into them, i just chucked it in M and snapped away, i've found my skill in knowing the different settings needed is really improving which i am so happy about it, i cant believe how much ive learnt as of late.

Lomo is referring to an old russian style camera that gave a fantastic effect.

A guy on here Beau Hudspeth from memory does a really cool photoshop action set that includes a few lomo effects. I'll see if I can find it for you
