Hey folks I wonder if I could have your opinion?
I have just purchased an (official) battery (NB-2LH) from Amazon.co.uk for £30.00 Having received it and compared it to the original battery I am concerned that it is not an official canon battery. Sorry about the quality of the pics, but obviously I couldn’t use my SLR!

The packaging looks legit, it has the canon hologram saying "genuine product"at the top and the print is of a good quality. It’s just the battery its self that makes me wonder.

The typeface on the top of the original battery, saying “CANON Li-ion BATTERY PACK” is in silver, on the new one it’s in white and slightly larger. And where I have marked on the images the construction of the plastic mould is different. The colour of the blue/green label is different, and the new one has a 5 digit serial number not a 4 digit number, and it is printed in a different place

Chances are its fine and it’s the design of the battery has changed in 2 years or so. I hope it’s just me being picky, just wondered what you guys thought?

Cheers;)

They probably just contracted out to a different manufacturer.

If it works, forget about it.

You paid an OEM price, so it's pretty likely to be OEM. Scammers selling fakes tend to target those looking for bottom dollar prices.

If it works, then you are golden.

Out of curiosity, why spend the money on an official Canon battery? You have an XT or an XTi so You can get knockoff batteries every bit as good as the Canon one but costing 1/3rd (or less) than the factory battery.

I have 6 batteries, 5 of them are aftermarket and none of them has given me a lick of trouble in 3 years.

Is there something I don't know?

(Ok, wait, there is a LOT of stuff I don't know, but I am talking batteries! :) )

I would say it's not a fake. Call Canon and they can probably put your mind at ease. Did you buy direct from Amazon or from a 3rd party through Amazon? Do they even do that in the UK?

Vetteography: the reason I went for official battery is that when I bought my camera I took out a extended warranty for 3 years, and it does not cover the use of 3rd party batteries. So if one were to leak it would invalidate my warranty. I know there are alternatives out there, but it would probably leak knowing my luck!

Bruce_b I have emailed canon, it takes 2-3 days for a reply. It was through a third party manufacturer through Amazon.

Canon changed the printing of their labelling applied to BP-511 batteries vs. the later BP-511A batteries, so it is not at all unusual to see cosmetic differences due simply to them being made at different points in time!

Ahhh... that makes sense. Thanks for clearing that up!

The NB-2LH that came with my G9 is different from both of yours. It has the writing in black on top, and the caution label is completely different.

Just an update, canon couldnt give me any information in regards to the serial number, and advised me to contact the supplier of amazon.

Who replied...

"Hi

Well unless my distributor who is the largest in Europe is supplying fake
batteries, yes they are genuine.

Best Wishes"

> Cheers for all the feedback on here people :)
