Although such simple techniques should be used for educational purposes,
It's so true, however I got a trick question for you.

If such simple tricks are making you sick, what would you define as a rare or tricky technique?
In my eyes I consider good panning shots as a difficult thing without much experience, macro shots the same, and photos with vibrant colour attract my eyes however this can be a very simple task in any photo/scene.

Hmm, tricky technique.

OK, how about freezing a kayak coming down a river that has silky water.

Yeah, maybe there should be a "photo cliche`" section.

Seems everyone with a new lens has to shoot a duck...

Vetteography started a thread .....

https://photography-on-the.net/forum/...d.php?t=530159

..... that is starting to get those pictures posted. Maybe it will become a gallery.
So everyone can post their ducks there.

1 - How do I get the subject in focus with the background out of focus?
and

I think both have been overdone both by newbies and professionals.

I don't think this one can be "overdone" it's a trait of our DSLR's

I don't know, I take pictures of what I want, how I want. Since I'm not trying to sell my work, I take pictures that are pleasing to me.

Personally I want to throw up every time I see super-processed photo's, overdone HDR's that don't remotely resemble real life, and don't even get me started on tone mapping...

But I don't go around complaining about it. ;)

Well, I don't know about a "trait" but its a capability that seems to reflect one of the main reasons people move from P&S to DSLRs

Personally, I've played with the DOF and Action capabilities but I'd rather see a "tack-sharp" photo from front to back.

Probably because my interest is in landscape and buildings rather than portraits and macro.

Ok, wrong word usage..a capability.

That makes sense...my focus is mainly on portraits and still life so that's why I would prefer a nice blurred out background.

timnosenzo,

"But I don't go around complaining about it".

But you've just done exactly that?

Yup, that's what the ;) was for. However, don't start threads about it.

My point was that, to each is their own. People want to make pictures with blurry water, so be it, people want to make tone mapped images, have at it. Art is subjective, what appeals to one, may not appeal to the other.

OK, I see your point. Someone should start a thread titled "The 100 boring stock images you have to take as a rite of passage".

1 - Duck
2 - Silky water
3 - your model-wife in field of flowers (oh sorry - thats just Bryan Peterson)
4 - .....

yea... but I was suprised to see how smokin' hot she was! Credit where its due - The boy done good! :)

Lets not over sensitize this. The OP was just saying "it seems like everyone wants to make these images from a coffee table magazine. Is anyone else tired of them."

So some of us chimed in with our opinion.

No big rant here - just a conversation about what appeals to people and what doesn't.
