I'm bummed. I took the flash out of my bag to find that the plastic pull-out panel was broken. Even worse, the small tab which prevents it from separating from the camera is still stuck down in the flash ....

Can I fix this myself? What would Canon charge for the fix?

I must say, it must be quite flimsy since I don't recall ever forcing it.

Sounds like a cheap fix to me.

The part(s) needed are less than $20 as I remember, but the entire flash head has to come apart, staying clear of the big capacitor to get to this section.

Canon has a fixed price repair on the flash units, which is usually about $125 here in the USA. It is not such a quick and simple take apart...

There are quite a few pieces of part need to removed before getting to the diffuser. I would just buy a $10 Omni bounce to take care of the wild angle stuff.

Doesn't the LCD screen blink continuously when the diffuser is pulled out (even a little bit), as a way of reminding you it is out?

And the head zooms to 14mm IIRC.

Heard back from Canon today. They're fixing the broken panel for free since the flash is under a year old.

Nice.
