Canon Macro Arrived Today, But...

I just got my new Canon 100 mm Macro 2.8 from UPS today! I'm going to put it on the 1Ds MkII and see what it , and I, can do!

The problem was that they left it on the front porch! I usually have to sign for my gear as it arrives via UPS, but the place I ordered this lens from didn't set it up that way! I was surprised.

I'm thinking that either I won't use the place again, and/or I will make sure the vendor has me sign for the things I purchase.

So, reading this may help one of you to not have a piece of equipment stolen from your porch!!

UPS can get real scary some times.............once they left over $3000.00 worth of stuff on the side of the house beacuse no one was home...........the way I found it was when the gardeners took the trash out they put the UPS delivered items on top of the trash cans out on the street. Last week while we were gone they did a real good job of leaving some packages out in the snow for us!!!!!!

Please give us a "report" on the macro.............it's next on my buy list.

I came home yesterday to find a nice big package on the front porch. (Just a new coffeemaker.) My wife had been home all day but UPS never bothered to ring the doorbell.

It's always a good idea to put "please ship with signature required" if the order form has a Comments section. I hate when they just leave stuff, so my important stuff always get shipped to work. Besides, I get to play with it sooner.

I had an insane experience with UPS and Fedex just leaving stuff this past summer, but not photo equipment. UPS had dropped off a $700 brick saw while I was not home, and Fedex came by the same day to pick up a wrong brick saw blade that another company had sent me. Well, guess what? Fedex came buy and took the saw, shipping it to the company that sold me the wrong blade.

I had no idea any of this happened, and about 3-4 days later I called both places to complain, and they gave me the tracking numbers. I checked and both said delivered, so now I am in a panic thinking someone stole my saw from the driveway. Finally, the company that received the saw realized they were supposed to get a blade back and returned my saw about a week later, but even since then I request a signature be required or hold for pickup for expensive items.

One other thing with UPS if a signature is require they leave a notice that they were there with a code which you can use to have it forward to a work address.

Had the same thing happen to me (not as valuable though). But a mate in the US sent me a package that had sentimental value and UPS left it on the drive under my wifes car (at least it was out of the rain) and guess what....she ran over it! Luckily my mate had packed the photos well and they weren't damaged. I complained but nothing happend.

I now get everything delivered to my work address as there is always someone there to take it in.

My brother lives in the USA (New Jersey) and the same happened to him: while our parents and me were visiting him, we went away on a trip for a few days, and UPS just left his 70-300 DO, which costs more than $ 1,000, in front of his door. Luckily his neighbour took the package inside and gave it to him when we returned.

What happens when someone steals the package, or when it is damaged by bad weather? Is UPS going to pay for it, or do they have insurance, or is it up to you to have the package insured?

Here (the Netherlands) something like that would be impossible - UPS would leave a note in your letter box and you'd have to come and pick the package up yourself at the UPS center (or call UPS and make an arrangement to have it delivered somewhere else).

I could complain about this, but honestly, I like that they leave stuff and don't make me wait longer. Once the UPS guy rang the bell (waking me up) but as I ran out the front door, his truck was rounding the corner and I had to wait another day. I hated that, and I would rather have my $7000 EF 600 left on the porch for me rather than waiting ANOTHER 24 HOURS before getting to use it to take shots of my cats from across the screet.
