I am ready to take my relationship with my addiction to photography to the next level...

I wish to enter the realm of the strobist...

I am in Aus but am happy to buy from B&H or dragon image here but what i want to know is which strobist kit do you recomend..I want a two umbrella kit
with bag and stands either white or shoot through...I will be utilizing my 580EXII plus my 430Ex to do this and have a STE2 transmitter to acheive both off camera...

What do you recommend ????
Budget $300.00

The items on the list look good but something like the umbrella adapter does not need to be a Lastolite for $40. You can get Impact and many other inexpensive umbrella adapters for under $20. I would save the cash in that department. On the other side of it, something like stands I would not go to an ultra cheap or off brand stand. Good stands are worth every penny.

Rooeey,
Im looking at something similar. I came across this at bh
http://www.bhphotovideo.com …ails&Q=&sku=425220&is=REG (external link)

For around 110 bucks AUS it is looking mighty tempting.

PS are you over at dslrusers as well?

That is a reasonable outfit for a good price. The stands are quite lightweight but EX flashes are too. I've used the outfit on a couple of occasions and it works very well, no fuss, no stress.

I had a look at the fotogendirect link posted by NSWESP.
Prices seems quit competitive to BH after factoring shipping. The main only thing that irks me is the way that the flash units are connected to the adaptor. From what it looks like to me, you have to screw the flash with mini-stand attached, compared to the "impact" adaptor that have a female hot shoe mount. Is this a factor worth thinking about?

DSLRusers are a small aussie contingent - mostly nikon users ... no way as active as this community.

Manfrotto Nano stands and Westcott 43" collapsible umbrellas with removable black backing (then you have the option to shoot through them or bounce without spill). That's what I use, and it's an amazingly compact kit! All from B&H for the best price (even Dragon Image won't match this, or even get close). Make sure you get sandbags for outside, the stands will tip over at the slightest hint of a breeze without them. The advantage of Manfrotto light supports over any no-name brand cannot be overstated - they are just that much better!

You will eventually run into problems with the ST-E2 and IR triggering outdoors in bright light, and will probably want some radio triggers. I have the EL-Skyports since I also have Elinchrom studio strobes.

I use this bag to hold two 8' stands + 2 umbrellas no problem. Well padded too.
