I need to decide on a light and compact tripod to take with me while travelling. I have a normal tripod ( el cheapo tough ) but it's too big, heavy and clunky to take with me. I just need something smaller to put the camera on walls, tables, poles, cars, whatever is avalible. Until now, I've gotten away with something like this:

The problems are, obviously, that it's kinda hard to get the angle I want, and I have to be very carefull because of the flexible legs. Anyway, I'm looking to "upgrade" to a Slik Mini tripod, but I also considered the Gorillapod.
Can anyone help me out ? The pod looks more versatile and reliable, but it's also 5x the cost of the slik mini and much bigger. My issue with the slik is whether it can hold the camera ( SLR ) withouth the head starting to slip. That can't happen with those flexible tripods because they don't have a moveable head. Anyway, has anyone been in the same situation ? What did you end up getting and what do you think of it ?

I have Gitzo GT1540T, great product and worth the money, new upgrade of it is GT1541T, i am sure it is great one as well, very expensive? Yes, but that what you should expect with great product, i think Gitzo is the best top line of tripods in markets.

I read that Slik 614CF is as good enough as Gitzo or so, and much cheaper, so give it a look.

If you like the Gitzo but don't have the cash.... Check out the Feisol CT-3441S. I have this one and the build quality is great and it is half the price of the Gitzo. I have taken the 3441S on several over sea's trips and it has nver let me down.

Those Feisol tripods look nice, but aren't avalible here:rolleyes:
Either way, those are all too large. I think I'm going to go with the slik mini if it can hold my camera without falling, which I trust it will.

The Gitzo 1541T is what I am looking to get, but if you need cheaper you might want to check out the Bogen 190CXPRO4 or 190CXPRO3.
