I think those are beautiful shots. Nice angles and colors. Lighting looks great. The only thing I can mention is that the background is wrinkled in 1 and their is some dust on the mirror/acrylic in 4.

I like the reflections a lot! Nice touch.

only nitpick is 4 is a bit dark ie: need a little light on the bellows with maybe a small reflector or mirror?

The "dust" is actually the flecks in the granite.

I've been looking for some acrylic to use, I just used what I had.

These are great. Did you buy a softbox or build your own?

At first, I built one used seamless paper, masking tape and a large, strategically cut cardboard box; pretty decent results, but not very portable/foldable/storable.

These are the test shots using the one I bought on eBay (30" light tent/cube), I wanted one b/c it was were collapsible (for easy storage), came with 4 different color felt backgrounds/inlays (and a light curtain for the front), 360ยบ diffused material, and transportable. A good $35 investment for me.

I used 1 off camera flash for light (camera front&right in some and 3 feet behind & slightly above camera); I'm still trying to figure out how to battle the refelctions (on transparent plastics (i.e. the camcorder front "sight" and in the lenses of the subjects). I still got more work to do.

The granite tile was left in my house's after construction (I dunno why, as I don't have granite in my house; must be from a neighboring homesite being built at the time).

Just checked out your "horrible" online gallery. Beautiful. Is the Easter Island stuff HDR? Composite? or a little of both? Great pics whatever they are.

HDR, 3 exposures (-2,0,+2), using photomatix

Your lighting control is outstanding. The subjects are wonderfully rendered, and the reflections are stunning.

That being said... I find myself perplexed by your cropping choices on every shot you posted. Is that something you want comment on, or is this just a "Softbox Results" post only - not finished product?

These are really great. The first 2 almost look computer generated.

Excellent composition and perfect exposure. Beautiful.

Thanks to everybody for all of the input/C&C.

Yes, this was me playing around with my new light cube/tent and toying with off camera flash.

A lot of the cropping was to remove the white portions of the cube out of frame or me running out of granite tile to get ALL of the camera reflection in frame (like in #1). Aside from those reasons, I suppose I was simply cropping to emphasize my primary subject.

I'll def try to do better next time with the input I got here.
