Both the red eye effect in humans and the glowing eyes of dogs are caused by the same problem - the flash being too close to the axis of the lens reflects back from the retina of the subject.

I am doing a little tutorial on preventing dog-glow for my dog club and wonder if using red eye prevention on a P&S camera will preven/reduce the glow in a dog's eyes.

Most of the members photograph their dogs with P&S cameras. I don't have a P&S to test this with - so I am asking for help.

The in camera red-eye feature will not work on dogs with direct flash (which will be what you get with a PS camera). Same goes for DSLR with direct flash.

Fortunately there is help.

Chip Springer has made a "demon eye" red eye removal for dogs (cats, etc.)

Look towards the end of the page for the Demoneye Remover action.
