(First, sorry for my english language because it isn't my main language.)

Hi. I have started photographing about 1-2 years ago, the real photographing recently. I moved from usual my called "memory" pictures to flower pictues and then to portraits, now I snap photograph of almost anything which would work as an picture. So I have good laptop for viewing pictures, good camera for photographing and few basic photo viewing softwares which can do almost all which I need them to do.

Problem is next. As I'm still beginner I can't even try to wish money from my portraits but I would want to give them for of nothing. I have thinked that I would example want my name as small text to my pictures right down corner but would it be too much? Or would it be something that our pictures viewers wouldn't forgot who was the photographer? So question is what would you guys do in my place? Do you give pictures to your model for free? Free of limits? Have you guys concerned giving for example half sized pictures to your models? Or is this all some kind of egoism or selfisness or...?

Sorry for silly questions but these things are very new for me. These questions are quite hard questions for anwser right becausee they contain ethical side but that is the thing which makes them interesting.

I wait for well-mannered anwsers. Hopefully we get a lot of anwsers. Thanks.

When I first started out I didn't have any volunteers for models so in order to get the experience I would ask people to model for me and I would give them an 8x10. As my experience grew I no longer had to give them away. I now charge for my photoshoots but without that initial practice I would not have been able to grow in this area. I did not put my name on those earlier portraits but now I sign the back of them.

If the portraits you do now are not good enough to charge for then I would not put my name on them.

Just approach people (through whatever method works best for you) and tell them the situation. You're not a professional, but you're learning and want to build your portfolio and gain experience, and ask if they would be will to trade a little bit of time in exchange for some better than snapshot quality pictures.

I wouldn't put my name on anything I wasn't proud to have in my portfolio. I would probably just do the normal editing and burn them to a CD for them.

Everyone has to start somewhere. Ideally you would have a willing model you could practice on to get your technique down, and free work can be a slippery slope when you get good enough that your "free" models start telling their friends "hey, this guy did these for free and look how good they are" and then their friends want free pictures too. But like I said, you have to start somewhere.
