I just recently became aware of how slingshot camera bags really work. After finding this out, I have been on a search to find the perfect one for me.
I currently use a small Tamrac Advneture 4 bag. The Tamrac holds all my gear fine, but for me to carry extra batteries I find myself needing to attach a point and shoot camera case to the side, and store batteries and other fairly large items in it, and this is rather annoying. So I am thinking about the Lowepro Slingshot 200 AW bag. It looks like it can hold all my gear with room for another lens\flash! It also has the nice and big upper section to store water, food, clothes, or larger accessories. I searched the forum for reviews, and I failed in finding any! So my question to the owners of this bag is:
1) Do you think it could hold all my gear easily?
2) How do YOU like the bag?
3) Is there a place to store accessories in the bag, besides the upper section?

My current gear is in my sig, but here is what I will be storing in this bag:
- Canon EOS 40D w\ 50 1.4 attached (Small zoom lens once I purchase it (Will be the 17-55 or 24-70).
- Canon EF 28-80mm f/3.5-5.6
- Sigma 70-300mm f/4-5.6 w/ Hood reversed
- Canon 430EX w/ Diffuser
- Extra AA Batteries
- Giottos Medium Rocket Blower
- Manuals
- Paper, Pen, Pad
- Business Cards
- Small flashlight

When I do buy new equipment, it will replace my current equipment. For example, my next lens purchase will be the 17-55mm f/2.8 IS, or the 24-70 f/2.8L. This lens will replace me 28-80mm, after that comes the 70-200 2.8, that will replace my 70-300, ect.
Thanks in advance!

If you want to put all your gear in it, I think you will be happier with the 300AW. I sold my 200 and bought a 300 for just that reason.

I also have a 300AW and think it would fit your needs very well.

BTW, It's the best bag I've owned by far and I was really attached to crumplers for a while. :)

I moved from a 100 to a 200 and have quickly filled it to the brim. However, I am carrying 3 lenses, flash and gripped 30D with 24-105 in the main compartment. I seriously doubt I will ever carry more than 4 lenses. I also carry a flip it pro, ST-E2, lenspen, several microfibers, 2 spare BP-511s, 2 sets of spare AAs (4 each) and 2 CPLs (55/77). I carry my battery chargers in a separate bag along with my cleaning supplies. Main reason for this is I have a delkin dual charger and a LaCrosse BC900. These combined with a rocket blower take up a lot of room. I decided to move this stuff to a small bag that I had laying around.

My main complaint about the 200 is that there is huge/ cavernous upper compartment. Unfortunately, there are no dividers in there so stuff tends to slosh around. I really wish they would make the top part with dividers also.

The 200AW can hold these items that you listed:

- Canon EOS 40D with the 17-55 or 24-70
- Sigma 70-300mm f/4-5.6 w/ Hood reversed
- Canon 430EX w/ Diffuser
- Extra AA Batteries
- Giottos Medium Rocket Blower
- Manuals
- Paper, Pen, Pad
- Business Cards
- Small flashlight

I took out the 28-80 lens. However, I recommend you to take a look at the backpack version Lowepro Fastpack 200 and or 250. The main improvements: same functionality as Slingshot, but better distribution with two straps (backpack) and a much larger and useful upper section.

Also, remember the 200AW has sliplock connectors on it that allows you to connect 3 or 4 extra sliplock pouches.

I've re-arranged the main portion so that I have access to everything from the side opening... I easily carry these:
40D + 15-55 mounted on body
70-200 f4 IS with hood reversed (2.8 no hood will also fit in that same space)
50 1.8 and 85 1.8 (they share the same spot)
580EX
that leaves me 1 more hole to put a lens in, and my 70-200 f4 will fit there w/o a hood, so you have a lot of options as to what can fit there.
Filters, batteries, chargers, etc... all fit in either the front of the bag or in the main compartment. I prefer to leave the top part of the bag for other stuff when travelling (book, passport, phone, etc..).
Fully loaded, the 200 is about as much weight as I want to carry with me. I'm always happy to unload a few things whenever I can to make it lighter.
The bag is good enough that regardless which of my lenses is on the body, I can quickly put it away in the bag w/o having to re-mount any lenses.
I've also added a couple of those carabiner clamps... one on the loop on top of the bag, and one to the mail strap. I can easily slide the camera's neck strap to either of those. The one on the loop helps to get the camera's weight off my neck, and both can help in keeping the camera off the ground should it slip out of my hands!

I love mine and I'd say it would hold your gear just right. I have a Fastpack 350 but it was just too bulky and the camera area wouldn't hold much more than the Slingshot 200. The SS is also easier to sling around. Of course the 300 will hold more, but the more you put in it the more it will weigh on your shoulder. There is a pocket on the front that will hold batteries, small flashlight, charger, etc.

Your gear list is pretty close to mine, size wise. I'm fairly certain everything will fit in it. I have my 70-200 on top of my flash, my gripped rebel xt with tamron 17-50 in main area with the battery recharger and kenko extension tubes in front. This leaves me space to put a mini tripod and AA battery rechargers. I'm sure you could fit your 28-80 in there.

I uploaded a few shots on my flickr: http://www.flickr.com/photos/bryman/ (external link)

Just to confirm, If I have a Rebel XTi with a 70-200 F/4 mounted (hood reversed) it will fit in the Slingshot 200 AW without removing the lens?

In another forum someone suggested the length would be a little shy of what I need.

Thanks in advance!

It will fit. I'm assuming you will replace the 28-80 with you get the 17-55 or 24-70? Just check my review of the bag. Follow the link in my sig.

I would definitely opt for the Fastpack though.

The problem is... what do you do with the 70-200 when you switch to a different lens.
