#2 looks like he is driving out of the pic, I would imagine is hard to get them centered up as those speeds. Excellent job!!
It's off-center for a reason. Hydroplane roostertails are like smoke trails at air shows or dragster burnouts: they're part of the composition and help show power and motion. (Too bad we can't see the similar impact that race cars have on the air, except in rare cases). With a hydroplane, it's best to frame a little looser than with cars to show the water thrown into the air.
The first image, with the yellow Miss Beacon Plumbing, was the best panning image that showed the boat skimming out of the water and was at 270mm. The second image, with the Oh Boy Oberto-Miss Madison, was at 170mm. Both at 1/80 and ISO 400 on a dim and cloudy day.
