WOOT!!

I have a feeling it will be a bit dark most likley.

What sort of settings should i be in? The dances will be fast at most times so i would like to capture her emotions/character/etc perfectly.

Any tips please?

Ta

Ps. Only using 18-55 IS kit lens.. (350d)

Far out, wish i could afford a faster lens!! hmm sigh

Also i will try shooting in AV mode..

You're just going to have to play with your aperture and iso in order to get a good workable shutter speed. Remember, IS will not help with subject movement so do everything you can in order to get a higher shutter speed. Also shoot in raw. The lighting is probably going to be all over the place and with raw you'll have the ability to adjust the WB after the fact. Good luck.

If it's going to be dark, a high ISO (800-1600) will probably be required.

If after everything the shutter speed is still too slow to freeze action, then try to use motion blur creatively in some way.

Good luck.

Thanks for the help.. Not to sure on the lighting, but since its a proper performance with many dancers etc, im sure there will be proper stage lights etc..

I will post up the pics tonight or tomorrow.. First time, so should be some fun taking these types of photos..

Thanks for the help there :) some great tips!!

I found that the more i zoomed in, the slower the shutter speed got.

The more i increased ISO, they more noiser it got (obviously), and it lacked the sharpness.

Guess i found out the limiations of my 18-55mm kit lens!!

You need to work within the limitations & some people here have taken great shots with them:
Post your best shots from the "kit lens"-EF-S 18-55

Shooting on M helps a lot.
