A client really wants these two pictures. I was only playing around when I took them, trying to get movement in the legs, bu I wasn't using a tripod so there's some camera shake. Also the light was teribble so they're really noisy.

I'd be really really
grateful if anyone could do anything with them? I can edit out the B and straighten them, it's just the blur that I'm worried about.

I don't think I'm understanding what you're asking. You said you were trying to get movement in the legs, which you accomplished, then you said you're worried about the blur. And you say they're really noisy? They look just fine at this screen size.

Sorry not to be clear- I like the blur on the legs, just not so much on the bodies, I guess I wasn't moving with him enough.

They seem to look much less noisy on screen than printed. I think my printer just isn't good enough, I'll get someone else to print them on monday and see what comes out.

So do you think they'd be ok at A4. I must admit I've been staring at them for about 3 hours now and they look dreadful to me. But maybe I'm just being overly fussy?

Which camera are you shooting with ?
The 40D has a high ISO noise reduction setting but to tell you the truth i can't see it on my screen....
If you shoot in RAW and expose to the right it will help ...
Search for tutoriol on Expsoe to the right in Processing thread or at Luminous Landscape.....Also try sharpenning PP maybe Highpass method in this case...

This is about as good as I could do with what you provided. Not sure if it is what you are looking for.

Second one is harder to correct due to more OOF face.
I gave it a different treatment to distract viewers eye from the flaw of the picture.
Also don't underestimate the power of the filters in situations such as this.

Thank you all again so much. They're fantastic. Distracting the eye is a very good idea Samsen. I'll have a go at that myself.

Here's a shot at both.

and

IMAGE: http://kirkt.smugmug.com/photos/326742305_STEry-XL.jpg

For both, I did some curves and some selective boosting using screen blending and masking. The key to these images is to try to boost them so they pop and selectively sharpen them so the focus/blur appears to be minimized. I duplicated the image and then sharpened it pretty heavily. Then I painted on a mask to lay in this sharpening where the images could hold it the most - namely in the textures on the chaps, blanket, hat, edges of the rider, mane, bridle, etc. I also added a vignette to focus the contrast on the center of the image.

The first image is a lot easier to deal with than the second image - the second is completely blurred at the rider's face. Good luck!

I love those irreverant- expecially the crop. I've decided to paint them for them instead- I'll post when finished.
