I've had alot of people asking me how much a cd of the images would cost.

Do you think $30 per high resolution image is unreasonable given my print prices?

I really don't feel comfortable in the first place giving them out, but i've had so many people asking me i don't think i can't not offer it.

Thanks.

No one can really tell you how much to charge. It depends on your cost of business and what you feel your work is worth.

As for a disc of high-res images, a lot of pros just figure on how much they are losing out on prints and then charge accordingly for the disc. You should have a print release for them to sign if you're gonna give out a disc. It needs to say on it what they are allowed and not allowed to do with the image files.

If you feel comfortable giving away your original images (and given that it is portrait shoots, I would probably be willing to do so, but would have to think carefully on that) I think the price you've set seems reasonable.

You don't have to sell digital images, and if you do you don't have to sell high res versions. You can do anything you like, just remember it may put people off. It's not common to sell files for portrait sessions, but it is common to sell them for weddings. For weddings I price for all files, for portraits, if I found a good reason to sell the files, i'd sell individually for a lot more than $30.

I just noticed I was working in my head in uk £, not us $, so I would double your suggested price. I'd guess you'd sell maybe 8 or 10 files from a shoot, so at a sheer guess I'd say you might make around $500 per shoot, which is an overall price I would be willing to do it for - YMMV.
