Would appreciate critique of this shot. Is it too dark? The problem with sunsets is they look so good in real life, but hard to emulate on paper.

The composition isn't very interesting. Overall, the picture seems a bit dark, yet the highlights are overblown. As their isn't much color to the picture, have you considered a black and white conversion? Sebastien

I think, just me, that getting more of the sun and less foreground may have worked in your favor here? Sand absorbs so much shadow, and having it is the "star" keeps the photo very dark. you're a great friend, but if Zombies chase us, I am tripping you.

Like the others, I agree it is too dark. I also find it looks a little weird not having the sun in the picture. My YouTube Vlog: https://www.youtube.com/c/GarageFlips

If you shot in raw, try to recover some of the highlights. Brighten the shadows as well. Photo Gear: Canon 60D, 85mm f1.8, Tamron 17-50mm f2.8 OS, 18-55mm kit lens, 580EX II

Jul 08, 2008 08:15 | #8 Thanks again for comments, unfortunately unable to try sunsets again in the short term as this was taken on the west coast of Australia and I live on on the east. This shot was about 5000km from home. I'll have to stick with sunrises for the moment. Dave
