Yea ive seen it in person, its seating right be side me. hahaha.

But i like it so far, the second latch thing was a little annoying to get off but ill deal with it. Can the quick release be swapped out on the head, like do they sell just the quick release. Or do i need to buy a new head?

Yes, on most ballheads from most manufacturers the quick release system can be changed, but why would you buy the 488RC0 if you were just going to take off the RC0 quick release and swap it for something else? I mean, I can understand if you were going to swap it for something like a non bogen quick release system, but even still if that were the case you should have just bought the plain 488 ballhead with no quick release, saved some money, and then just bought the new quick release afterwards and put it on. And, if you are going to go with a different bogen quick release you should just return the 488RC0 and buy the 488RC2 or the 488RC4.

Buying stuff from the internet doesn't allow me to see or play with it before deciding what i want.

I ordered the 488RC0 because i thought the features it had were worth it. And i still believe they are. I'm happy with the 488RC0, i just need to get use to the double latch safety feature.

I was just curious if the quick release was removable just in case i do decide i don't like the current one. But if i decide i don't like the 488RC0 then i do have a couple days to return it. No big deal.

TomTom.
Must be a drummer.
Ever been to Dale's?
Anyway.
The Harrisburg area must have some well stocked camera shops.
Here in the Philadelphia market we have many.
I always like to walk into the shop and check out all the features the products have and purchase what I need from them.
All of my local shops are priced within a few bucks of each other and internet pricing. I like giving the sale to the local shop as they help me in my choices and knowledge of products.

I totally agree... But we have one local shop (short driving distance) and they are normally way over priced

My buddy just got a Tammy 17-50, and they charged him 495.00 where amazon has it for 404.00

And i got my 580exII for like 490ish and amazon has it for 405.00, so 85-90 bucks more is a steep difference.

The tripod and head was only 30 bucks more at the local place, but they didnt have the head in stock. They had the 488RC2, which i did like. But i checked it out after i got my 488RC0

No biggie duo.

Try replacing the SLIK head...

I hope you kept your SLIK because, it is a pretty good general purpose lightweight tripod IF you replace the head. Put your 488 head on it and see if it will support your outfit. The combination should be a bit lighter than your Manfrotto legs setup and might be right for "boonie tromping".

I have a Giottos MT-8180 Tripod with a Giottos MH-1300 head.. I also have a SLIK 330 Pro which I use for my "boonie tromping". The 330 Pro works pretty well if I get rid of the SLIk head and replace it with my MH-1300 head.

It especially works well when the MH-1300 head is combined with the Really Right Stuff L-bracket when shooting with a camera/lens combination which doesn't include a tripod ring.

Eventually, if you decide to go with an Arca Swiss Compatible Quick release system, you cam simply replace your Manfrotto base with an AC base from Kirk or RRS.
