Traded in my canon 70-300 IS USM for the canon 70-200 2.8L yesterday. Took me a couple of hours to get used to the added weight but it feels fine now. I know I have to work on the backgrounds. Comments and critiques are welcome.

I am not, by any stretch of the imagination, an expert but it seems that sometimes you just have to live with the background given you. I'm not sure how you could improve the background on the first image without losing the pitcher's extension and facial expression.
The second image could do with a bit of horizon leveling. I see how you probably used the front strip of grass as your leveling point but everything in the background is thrown off kilter.

With that said, I think the first image is a keeper.
Enjoy the new lens and keep the pictures coming!

My cameras dream of "L".
photograph/snapshot ratio 1/250 and I'm okay with it.

I agree... I think there are some things you can control like minimizing
extra players in the background but ya can't move a house... You can
however possibly eliminate some of the background issues by shooting
tighter and opting for a portrait landscape orientation (like on shot 1)...

That said... nice job for first time out on the 70-200, it will take you a
little while to get used to it...
