Thanks for the comment. He didn't fall. This was one of the kids that was doing circles around me when I was in the water. These young kids were catching all the waves. I got a few rides but got out to take pic's instead of competing for the waves.

Gotcha, nice. Some days are like that, and I'll feel like I just started surfing yesterday. Other days I feel like I'm the best out and I can't be touched. I can dream too.. Anyway, it takes years to really improve.

Back on topic, how do people respond to you photographing them? I've wanted to get some surfing shots but I always feel like people would be more than a bit creeped by someone set up on the beach with a tripod and everything. Maybe on a crowded day where it doesn't seem like I'm just shooting one random person I don't know.. Any tips?

Awesome shots. We need a hurricane to get waves like that.

Many of the people responded by giving me their email so they could see themselves in a pic. As far as taking the shots.. I didn't even think about it. The beach was fairly crowded and I was shooting hand held. I never use a tripod.. not that I don't think they're necessary I just have too much other stuff to carry around. Besides there were other people with camera's..mostly the point and shoot type. I also windsurf (I'm much better at that than surfing) and I've had people take shots of me and I'm just flattered that anybody would want to. Given that, I don't think they get creeped out... If anything they tend to get a little more show off-ish for the camera. I'm a amatuer at photography and I don't really think much about taking pictures of people doing stuff. I've seen some pretty nice artsy professional photo's of random people.

Hope that helps

Henry

Thanks for your comment!

There were four straight day's of waves like this. They got up to about chest high and that's pretty unusual for early July. I've seen it break big and clean there but it does take a hurricane or something out at sea to get that. Where are you where you would need a "hurricane"?

Sweet, yeah that definitely helps. Could also help me meet some people to learn from in the area. I never thought about it from my perspective if I were in the water, but I'd be stoked if someone random felt me worthy enough to take pictures of. The email idea sounds good too. I'm looking forward to trying this out, thanks for the help.

Thank you for the comment. This is the one time I can agree it was good timing...I only took one shot not a bunch of frames per second like I usually do.
