well i got asked to dance at a wedding...it really took my by surprise. i did feel back for the girl when i turned her down, but i was working...and in the middle of doing ring shots...

i really did not want to for a couple of reasons:

1. i am there working, being paid to work and w/ the exception of grabbing a bite to eat and something to drink i really dont think i should be "part" of the wedding...

2. I am a horrible dancer

I wonder what will happen if a super hot girl ever asks me to dance...it may override numbers 1 and 2....i know, very unprofessional...

I was a guest at a wedding last year and one woman at our table revealed she had previously gone on one date with the wedding's photographer after meeting on Match.com.

Awkward.

bigcountry - the only question you should have considered is "was she hot?"

I have actually had this happen to me more then once... from as awkward as them just coming up and dancing on you, to dropping more subtle hints about how "if i had a date, like you, i would actually be out on the dance floor"

But in all situations, i have had to politely decline just because of the publicity. Imagine if a guest snapped a picture of you and said something like "even our photographer was having a great time partying..." or something like that, it would not look professional...which is the same reason i wont drink at a wedding, but that is a differient issue.

Yeah, that's kinda weird if you're working to start dancing with someone at the wedding. The guests just don't think about that I guess... or maybe you were just too attractive for the girl not to try?

haha, but I am not sure they even think about it to much. If it is a bridesmaid, you will usually know them pretty well (for how long you have actually known them) by the reception given you just spent all day together and the night before at the reception.

i just say, the real dancin begins at midnight...hahaha.

i agree that if i were out there dancing and i missed a shot, or the photos weren't up to par for the bride and groom, it could literally ruin a person.

my mortgage is more important than my (lack of) dancing skills.

I attended a wedding of a friend recently. Although my friend originally considered me to be the wedding photographer, I was at least bright enough to know what my limitations were, so I suggested that she should look at a more "full time" photographer.

Anyway, I did attend the wedding and brought along my camera to shoot my own informals. But in so doing, I shot a number of shots of the professional photographer and sent him the shots. I figured that he is usually behind the lens, and might be able to use some "on the job" shots of him in action for his own web site. He was very appreciative of my thought . . .

Ya, if anything, it established a contact if you would be looking for any assisting jobs in the future.

I think it is a very bad idea for the photographer to step outside his professional status while working any job. You can arrange to meet later if there is a natural attraction.
I actually heard about a photographer getting into the conga line at the reception. Duh?
It is the bride's day at the wedding.......
