about to purchase an ABR800 soon, couple questions

First off. im most likely ordering it in 5 days. i do mostly car photography along with bands and girls... now... do you guys think i will be able to do the majority of my photography with only a abr800 (and maybe this crappy slave slash i have)? here are some examples i found on a clothing website for the kind of stuff i will be attempting to do with the abr800 and my 350D.

The only disadvantage to the ABR vs. regular strobes is that while you get the great ring light look, you don't want to get into a rut and shoot tons of similar looking images (until you become known by that style and can trade on it, I suppose).

Well is it not possible to get a stand and get a softbox for the abr and shoot it as it is a strobe? Wouldn't that make it almost the same if its not on the camera itself

The ABR will be a step up from what you have. It will not be as versatile as purchasing separate AB strobes for three/four or more point lighting setups. There are no standard softboxes per se that fit the ABR - just the Moon Units, though the 56" one looks like a nice option. No mount for umbrellas that I can see. If you really want the ringflash look (which it sounds like you do) then there aren't a lot of options in the price range of the ABR. The normal AB strobes won't give you a ringflash look no matter what you use to modify them. AB has a generous return policy, so buy one and decide for yourself.

ok I have the ARB and love it. It is more versatile then people are giving it credit for. It comes with an umbrella mount so you can use it at a regular strobe. Also the Moon unit with no hole will act as an ocatbox. Also since its low profile it can be used in tight spaces unlike bulky soft-boxes and an Ab400-1600

I say go for it, you CAN use it like a regular strobe or an the great ring light

thanks for the response... im really excited about it. im going to be doing car photography with it as well so hopefully it works good for that too

yup any time, work great and doubles as a strobe. Its a great light in my book

Don't forget that you'll need a hotshoe to PC adapter if you're gonna be shooting with a 350D

oh noes. im getting it today in the mail.. i didnt know i needed this... you think a local ritz camera would carry a hotshoe to PC adapter?

I've never actually been to a Ritz camera, but you might want to call ahead and ask.

Ritz camera is a ripoff.

I bought a 430EX flash from them for $317 and realized I can get it from any reliable online source for ~ $230.

And... to answer your question - No, they don't. I went in there asking for one and they didn't even know what it was. Maybe they have omne, just not sure what I was talking about. I'm pretty sure I have the name down though. Ritz said they have the ETTL transmitter, though... (the SE-T2 or something like that)

i called around. and a few camera stores in town have them... i wish i would have known sooner, my abr800 is sitting right in front of my lap waiting to be used... haha. well tomorrow i will go purchase the adapter
