Convincing a friend/family/client that their browser/monitor is the problem, not you.

So, I've been thinking.

A great majority of us go through the trouble of calibrating our monitors, PP our colors until they look right, and using browsers that support color profiles.

BUT honestly, how many of the people that LOOK at our pictures are using the same 'level' of equipment/browser?

I've looked at my zenfolio at home on my color calibrated LCDs & I've looked at them from work LCD...WORLDS APART; same goes for pretty much every normal (off the shelf, uncalibrated) monitor I view them from.

How do/can we go about informing the general public (friends/familiy/CLIEN​TS) about how if they view the pics on their old CRTs or uncalibrated LCDs using whatever browser they can figure out how to use?

For those who earn a living from photos, how do you ensure what you see is what your clients sees (short of marching them to your computer and showing them)?

Is there some sort of unspoken understanding?

Is there a de facto disclaimer we should post (i.e. "If these pictures look bad, its probably your monitor/browser.")?

Post a simple grayscale on your site, like DpReview does:
Click and scroll down.

Show them your prints & compare them to theirs. If that doesn't convince them, what would?

Include a note in your Zenfolio home page bio to the effect that the images should be viewed via a correctly calibrated monitor.
