Eric,

Just consider that if you buy the 17-55, you won't be able to use it on either the 5D or the 1Ds, so you may want to reconsider the 16-35 2.8 L as it will work with both cameras.

Just a thought. Good moves...

And also, the 85L is an amazing piece of glass...

Thanks Kenneth! Did not realize the 17-55 will not work for both. The more I read and listen, the more I am leaning toward the 85L. And since I am planning a trip to Colorado this fall, I must might have to take your advice for the 16-35L also. Darn, you make just too much sense. Thanks for the great advice! To everyone for that matter. I am going to have fuuuuunnnn the second have of this year!!!!

I'd scratch the 400, get a 300 instead, and use the remaining funds to pick up a 1 series body.

+1.

$12k and you decide to dump it ALL into photography gear? Wow..you must have a lot dough!

I say you get yourself a 5D, 16-35L, 35L, 85L and maybe a 70-200 2.8L IS...save the rest of the money =P

The 17-55 F2.8 IS is another good reason to get a 40D.
