Dropped my camera in the pacific ocean and needless to say its dead, but hey, the memory card still works great haha. Just bought a new 40D, you think its safe to put that card in there? If it has little specks of sand or salt on or in it still, dont want to get screwed. Thoughts?

People have run their CF cards through the wash, dropped them in puddles at the scene of a fire, backed over them in cars... If you can still format it and read from it, sure, why not?

The downside is you dropped it in salt water. This is typically a bad thing. Might want to run it through the washing machine yourself... :p

LOL, there's a first. This would probably be a good case for a canned air gun.

Unless it's an Extreme IV or a huge capacity card, I wouldn't risk it and just replace it.

I would toss the card right back into the ocean. Any salt in the card will quickly corrode the contact pins in your new camera.

I agree, not worth the risk. If there are images stored on there you wish to retrieve maybe buy a cheap card reader and see if you can copy them over to your computer. Other than that trash it.

If the card was plugged in to the camera...wipe it off and go ahead and give it a try in your card reader for your computer. If it works there, it should be fine to use in the camera. The card is not full of salt water. If it did get salt water in the contact socket area, it has dried and corroded by now. Plain and simple, the card will either work fine or it is dead. You aren't going to hurt your card reader by trying it.
