Have a canon ST-E2 plus 2 canon flashes but looking to get several cheaper flashes like the Vivitar DF340Z/DF400MZ.I have been told that these vivitar flashes are compatible with the ST-E2 but just wanted confirmation.

Cheers for any responses.

I've seen several specs for this flash which shows that it is ETTL compatible but I have yet to see anything which shows that it can act as an ETTL wireless slave to the ST-E2. You might want to see if you can get a hold of a user manual for this flash before you actually buy it to make sure that it will do what you want it to do.

I don't own a vivitar, but from anything I've read about wireless E-TTL so far, Canon and some Metz flashes are the only fully wireless E-TTL compatible flashes, and Sigmas are partially compatible. I have never heard or read of any other brand flash which would support wireless E-TTL and would be extremely surprised to hear that Vivitar had such a flash in their offerings.

Not sure whether that's enough of an answer, though ...

Discovery is not accidental. We discover only when we make ourselves ready to receive and photographers seek discovery by mastering their craft. But it begins somewhere else. It begins with daisies, kids, awful scenes, falling in love, or growing old. It begins with that which matters to you. And it ends with visual statements that express what matters to you about these things. It is not sight the camera satisfies so thoroughly, but the mind. - Christian Molidor
