This is my first post for pictures, but after reading so many posts in so many forums, you all have inspired me.

I'm looking for feedback on a few shots I took at the UGA/GA Tech baseball game at Turner Field in May. The following are a few of my faves. This outing was my first attempt at seriously trying to shoot a sporting event. It helped that a friend of mine coordinated the event and gave me a press level pass (how sweet that was) and that it was my college alma mater (Go Dawgs) playing their rival.

I tried embedding pictures with the links but must've done something wrong since that didn't seem to work. I've just put in the URL to the small album instead.

This first two were shot with a 40D and 70-200 IS USM lens. (BTW, on the second shot, the guy at first was called safe! The ump missed that call.)

The last one was with a Digital Rebel XT and 100-400 IS USM. I was just intrigued by how the catcher kept looking to his coach for signs and tried to catch that gaze.

Nicely done! I was in the other well and got a few myself! Nice shot of Poythress at first base! Unless you were with The ABH I think you're in shot number 3. :-)
Don't ya hate it when the ump gets in the way!

Nice shots yourself! That was a good game, wasn't it? Though the ending was too close for my comfort level.

Yep, that's me in your 3rd shot. I just wish I could get a press pass to go shoot some Braves' games from that close.

Speaking of ump eclipses, would this be you in the red on the left? I think we both took photos at almost exactly the same time from 2 different perspectives! That's kinda freaky (and cool)... At least the ump got that call right.

Wow, I think we hit the shutter release at the same time comparing all relevant points! I shoot a lot of UGA football and am delving further into more of them. Soccer, baseball just this year, the Ice Dawgs. Hopefully I'll get to do some lacrosse, basketball, tennis and swim meets this year, maybe even try to do an equestrian event or two. Shooting the Gym Dawgs would be nice but I think that may be a tough pass to get.
And yeah, I'm in the red, I got a little glare thing going on with my dome there. LOL
Speaking of Braves, I shot this a few years back from 6th row seats just past the visitors dugout. Shooting the Braves from the pit would be a dream come true!
Feel free to join us in conversation on the POTN Atlanta thread! Great folks over there and welcome to the board!

I think you did very well! The second pic in the middle I like the best. Keep posting.

I think your shots of the same play from the 2 different angles are a great illustration of why the big media folks (SI, newspapers, etc.) often send multiple photogs to big games. Different perspectives, different angles and given the ump makes a better door than a window, one shot that works great, and the other not so much! (Plus it's cool that you can see each other too! :))

Do you have special access for the Dawgs' events? If so, how'd you get it? I'd love to get to some of those and shoot some more things. At least you're in Jefferson which is closer to UGA than Duluth. The same guy that got me access to the baseball game said he'd get me to the Smoltz golf tourney in the fall and a special event the Stinchcombs have in Athens in August, I think. I can't wait! Hopefully my skills will be even better by then!

Nice shot of Hudson. I'd love to go shoot some Braves' games. I've been a fan since I was a little kid (through last place and first place teams). Did you get a big lens past the gate for that shot?

And look for me on the POTN Atlanta thread. I've been watching it and will be contributing soon! Thanks for the invite!

I think this (external link) is the event you're talking about. The Stinchcomb brothers do it every year for the Childrens Healthcare of Atlanta and the Georgia Transplant Foundation...plus a few more charities. I'll be there for Fan Day on the 19th.
I've been working slowly on gaining access to events since 2005 and this past year was able to make a few more steps towards other venues. This year was my second G-Day game I was able to get field access for and with you being an Alum you could probably get access with a little more ease than I was able to get the first year I went.

As for access to games I'm unsuccessful but I know most of the security people and they are a little lenient in allowing me to stand at one of the gates and shoot during the games. I shoot personal shots of them at the games as a thank you gesture and it keeps me in good stead with them. But I still have to buy tickets to get in so it's not free. I'm working on contracting with the local paper to shoot UGA football for them and obtain field passes but as I said, I'm still working on that.
Your contact wouldn't happen to be Chris would it? ;-)a
We'll have to exchange a few pm's and I'll pass some names and contacts along to you.
