Well im fairly new to photography and have only really been into my landscapes and such. I wanted to get into experimenting with light. And as i looked more into it, it became daunting, as it is all quite expensive for me (im young and saving for travelling) So i dont want to dive in and spend a heap of cash without knowing for sure this is a direction i want to take.

I Really have an intrest in creating low-key images, wheter it be potraits, nude fine art, bodyscapes, flowers.

I realise a strobe set up, with soft-boxes etc would be the answer. But i was wondering on any advice how to do it with inexpensive continuous lights. If so what wattage would these light(s) need to be to create my 'desired' images.
I saw these sort of "flood lights" that where 500 watts, would these be useful.

I know they get hot and that, but i just wanna play around. And what is a good way to get that diffused "soft-box" light without setting the house on fire?

Oh hang on, one more thing, i dug a old flash-pak from my parents old kit, a Hanimex tz2500, i realised this probally wouldnt work on my 350d, and didnt wanna try it in case i screw my camera up. And was wondering wether i can use this old thing in some way. There is a bunch of manual jargon on the back that i cannot get my head around.

Sorry this post probally sounds lame, but your all such helpful people, and im very appreciative

Thanks
Joel
