Team Picture - Doubleday Field Cooperstown

Hi all -

In August (Labor Day weekend), we're off to yet another tournament in Cooperstown at Doubleday field (the field was rented by the league we're in).

The widest lens I have is the 24-105. I'd like get a shot of the team (I think it is like 13-15 boys and 3 coaches), with the wording of the entrance above them. Will the 24-105 be sufficient for something like this? If something else you think would be better, I'm open to renting something that would ensure a better capture for this set of circumstances.

You may run into bigger problems, like others wandering about putting themselves in the team photo when they shouldn't be (like that sample pic). Not sure how many people visit the field but just like that photo you may run into that problem. Personally I use a 50mm for all my team pics as its crystal clear, little farther and wouldnt mind shorter glass but it works well - if the 24-105 is crystal then you shouldnt have a problem getting it all in there.

If you end up having the field to yourself another good team photo may be in center field with the stadium itself as the background (grand stand). Also maybe just a group shot, unorganized, hanging out in the dugout or just outside. If they have time for all this

I was just about 15 mins from there last night but never got down to the hall or field.

Thanks. For that reason, I intend to ask the boys to get up early on the 1st day of the tournament, to get an EARLY team photo in front of the stadium. I hope I have some luck convincing mostly 13- year old boys to wake up early in August.

I really have to update my sig, but I do have a 50 mm 1.4 as well (Canon - purchased last year specifically for a wedding). Should I try that over the 24-105? However, I thought I would need as wide as possible to get everything in (the team and the sign a few feet over them). Since I am getting up to cooperstown 1 day earlier than the rest of the team, I might go over to the stadium to experiment prior to rest of the team's arrival, and post here.

That should answer your own question, get to that stadium the day before and start tesing out! Hands on will help more than anyone else can tell ya, I dont remember how far back you could get and all that - the 50 ads some walking backwards for sure but usually the crystal clear pic is worth it.
