would you trust a 40D refurbished by canon purchased from Adorama?
there are never any reviews for the refurbished ones on the site

if people here say it is ok to purchase that, i would feel more comfortable buying from there than used anywhere else

I fully trust Adorama and any Canon factory refurbished equipment. These refurbs are indistinguishable from new. If the limited warranty is a concern, consider buying a Mack extended warranty from one of the Mack dealers listed on eBay. I have done this many times for both Canon and Nikon refurbished cameras and lenses and personally know half a dozen friends that have done the same and are similarly pleased.

I should have added that my 17-40L, 70-300 IS DO and 70-200 2.8L are Canon refurbs. If refurb 5Ds were available when I purchased my 5D, I would have bought a refurb unit for the savings.

Hope that this helps.

I've purchased a lot of new camera equipment from Adorama, some through Amazon.com and some direct. I can't say about the refurbished cameras, but I believe Adorama would stand behind the sale and, if necessary replace the camera or refund your money if you have a problem with it.

I'm looking at getting the 40d too. The Adorama 40d refurb price doesn't seem that much lower than the Amazon price for a new 40d, considering the cost of shipping is included with the refurb but the Amazon camera would ship for free. What's the adavantage to buying a refurb -vs- new?

I would if the warranty was for a year. :)

well, i just bought a 40d refurb kit from adorama after reading this thread...

i bought the Canon EOS-40D Digital SLR Camera with 28-135 IS USM Lens KIT (external link) that comes out to $999. there is a 90 day adorama warranty on it. i went ahead and purchased the 3 year mack warranty for $79.95. total comes out to about $1080.

the brand new price of that kit itself is $1129.95. the std warranty on that is 1 year.

so, i bought the same camera, with a 3 year warranty, and saved $50. :)

not too bad, eh?

usually i don't call internet stores, but i called them, and nice guy helped me out. if you want his info, pm me and i'll send it on over. :)

Current 40D Price New @ Adorama = $939.95
Current 40D Price Refurbished @ Adorama = $874.95

To save only $65 (6.92% savings over new), I don't think I'd buy refurbished. Not enough savings for me. If it was $750 (20% savings over new) for a refurbished 40D then I'd have to give it some serious thought.

That's my analytical $.02...
