Here is a review:

I've never used this one, but I have used the Sigma 50-500. It's not fast enough for motorcycles and I've never tried it for airshows.

f/6.3 at the long end isn't exactly the best choice for motorsport in the UK with the awful lighting conditions we have to deal with most of the time. It isn't an issue of shutter speed but focus tracking accuracy won't be adequate. It will probably be OK on bright sunny days but a bit of a disappointment otherwise.

Guess my little bitmap on the search feature wasn't appropriate and thus my reply removed, but in any case, the two largest posts in this forum on the 150-500 lens that I also had in the reply is still pertinent info.

Here's my thread and album of first impressions. Nice lens for the price. Fast focus.
Tad soft at 500mm, switching to my 20D instead from my 40D, I have such better use of this lens! Both cameras had excellent focus response and the OS was very good.

What I discovered was the camera has issues, not the lens. Focus problems for a year with my 40D and 300f4. So now the second long lens, sigma, same focus issues at a distance. Saw some back focusing, soft photos at a distance. Switched to my older 20D and the sigma is excellent and responds well to the 1.4x Tamron Teleconverter. [which the 40D failed at, probably because of the back focusing problem]

The sigma brings to us something canon can not give us, an excellent 500mm zoom, with excellent fast focusing, fast FPS, very good OS. Unfortunately not on my 40D. The camera is going back to canon, yet again. If my 20D can do this, why can't the 40D? Time will tell. For now I'm pairing my sigma with the 20D. Very nice color also which surprised me. Birds in flight today. The true test for me, which I do not expect it to do as well as anything canon has in primes. We know that one. But yes, a productive lens and I already have gotten used to hand holding it. I like to walk, not sit in one spot with a tripod. So this really is the only lens out there. Don't expect perfection, but expect fast focusing, as good as canons L's focusing, [a biggy for BIF's] and decent, beautifully colored photos. Yes even at 500mm, but beyond 50 ft. expect a softer target.
