Photoshop is a very complicated program that takes alot of time and practice. The key is to not get discouraged when your early efforts don't measure up to the photo in your minds eye. Keep at it and you'll do fine, eventually! Thanks for being honest. The exposure was horrible in this picture anyway, and I was chasing her camera in one hand bag in the other. I'll keep trying! I am trying not to get discouraged. Any good tutorials online you may suggest. Any help would be wonderful!

So, you can view this in the camera no problem, but Windows (and most software) can't understand RAW as it isn't a typical raster image type. So, you open it using special software like Adobe Bridge which is made to understand it. Notice how you can perfectly adjust the white balance of a RAW image on your PC, as if you set it in the camera. So if you have it wrong, you can just change it. That is one thing I love about RAW. Especially shooting in doors etc. Also, you can boost blacks, vibrancy and saturation really nicely on screen to make a more dramatic picture. my flickr

Think of raw like a film negative, and think of the raw converter like the dark room, where you would develope the photo. If your using a canon DSLR, then you should have a disk with a program called Digital Photo Professional. You can convert your RAW images to jpeg images through that, essentially developing the film.
