this will be my first DSLR, and im looking to shoot sports, and close up things,

this is all off of adorama:
40D refurbished by canon
EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS
EF 50mm f/1.8 II
EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS
SanDisk 4 GB, Extreme III
Lowepro SlingShot 100 AW
Mack 3 Year Digital Camera Extended Warranty

all for about $1615 which is about the most ill spend with my budget
its either that 40D or an XSI with the same lenses

i know ill need some other stuff soon, like filters and an extra battery, but this is the list to just narrow it down

For closeups you may want to look for a macro lens. I have a 100mm 2.8 Canon macro and love it. It's also a great portrait lens.

Looks good.
Take the 40D over the XSi.
Consider getting 2 CF cards - a bad card can rapidly spoil your day.
The 18-55 IS allows you to get quite close to your subjects, and, depending on your final image size, cropping can give you added "magnification". A dedicated macro lens is certainly a great tool, but you may be surprised by what you can achieve with the 18-55 IS.
Next on your list should perhaps be a flash like the 430EX II.

The list is a pretty good generalist set, though if you are really really serious about those specialities then you might want to make a few compromises.

For instance, the 55-250 is a nice telezoom, but the AF performance will sometimes be a little lacking for outdoor sports. A stretch would be to go for a used 70-200/4 which has much better AF for sports with similar reach.

Also be aware that the only lens in your set with any indoor sports capability is the 50/1.8, though the AF performance of this lens can be tough for action. I wasn't sure by 'sports' if you were thinking football or basketball....because they require very different lenses.

You are not too badly fixed for macro already with the kit you have listed, though you might want to add some cheap 3rd party extension rings to use with the 50/1.8 to get reasonably good close up shots. If macro is a passion then a dedicated macro lens is going to be handier and a lot better.....but it will also cause serious cutbacks elsewhere to hold the budget.

I use a Canon 5DIII and a Sony A7rIII

thats a very good starter kit!:)

since you mentioned you like to shoot "close up", im assuming you mean macro so i suggest you get extension tubes for your 50 to make it macro capable or to just replace it with a true macro lens like the 100 macro or EF-S 60 macro.

with the 55-250 IS, i usually recommend it but for sports, like what JeffreyG said, the 55-250 IS might be a little bit slow to AF so the 70-200 f4 would be better suited for that. for indoor sports, (yeah, need another lens for that) the 85 1.8 is hard to beat for the price & performance.

maybe you you should just get the 85 1.8 & Kenko extension tubes so you have a sports & macro lens in one...sorry if i made things complicated.
